A historically accurate account of the Delaware (Lenni Lenape)Indians, as told
by their own storytellers. Maps
and illustrations that give form and feature to the charactersand
events.
A thought-provoking search for truth.
A story of the timeless struggle between good and evil,
right and wrong.
The
Conquest Series is a saga of the Delaware Indians. This novel in
four volumes recounts the events that led to the loss of the Delaware
homeland, a homeland given them by the Great Spirit hundreds of
years before the Europeans arrived.
American Indian Painter,
George Catlin (1796-1782), once wrote of the Delaware Indians: “Amongst
this tribe there are some renowned chiefs, whose lives, if correctly
written, would be matter of the most extraordinary kind for the reading
world.” The Conquest Series is
the story of the lives of some of those renowned Delaware chiefs.
In The
Conquest Series Lenape heroes come alive as storytellers and
orators pass their history on to their own people. Their record of
events sounds strikingly different than the biased tales so often told
in the white man’s history books. The
Conquest Series uses the true life story of Glikkikan, a famous
Lenape war chief who almost took Fort Pitt, to tell about the conquest
of the Lenape homeland, and about his own personal conquest as he sought
another homeland for himself and for his people. The story of the
Conquest is presented in four volumes.
The
setting for Volume I and Volume II is located in Peace Valley Park near
Dublin, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Here on a hill above Neshaminy
Creek, Owechela, an eighty year old chief, passes on an oral
history of the Delaware Indians to his grandson, Glikkikan. But
Owechela’s story is more than an oral history. Owechela aims to instill
in Glikkikan a love for his homeland and to inspire Glikkikan that he
might pass the courageous Spirit of Tamenend on to the next generation.
Volume I The Lenape Homeland
In The Lenape Homeland find out how the Great Spirit gave the Delaware Indians a homeland and why the Lenape became “women.” Consider the great Lenape sachem Mattahorn and realize why the Delaware Memorial Bridge really should be known as the Mattahorn Memorial Bridge.
In The
Homeland in My Heart, follow the trails with half-breed Sage
Meas as he decides if he is Dutch or Lenape. Join Meas as he faces
governors, pirates, soldiers, traders, commanders and Mennonites, and
unflinchingly challenges them with what is right and wrong. Are the
Great Spirit and the Christian God one and the same? Is murder, theft or
adultery sometimes right and sometimes wrong? Discover the answers to
these questions in Volume II.
Tomahawks to Peace moves forward in Lenape history, portraying the life and times of Glikkikan. In Volume III Glikkikan is the renowned Lenape orator, the heathen war chief, the champion of his people, and the consummate seeker of truth.
Tomahawks to Peace tells the tale of how a skilled Lenape orator (Glikkikan) tries to convince a doubtful white youth (Turtle) that the Indian grievances leading to the French and Indian War were real. Turtle never accepts the truth of Glikkikan's tale until...
You will be caught up in the struggle as Glikkikan and "Turtle" try to separate truth from fiction while the world they know crashes around them.
"In Tomahawks to Peace you will discover an America you never knew existed. Rich in historical detail, this novel challenges our understanding of our Nation's history using the true words of those who seemingly had no voice in its creation, yet who were forever changed by it." — Mark Turdo, author of Common People, Uncommon Community: Lenape Life in Moravian Missions.
"Tomahawks to Peace is a historical novel detailing the displacement of the Delaware Indians of Pennsylvania by the colonists from Europe. Fully true to the happenings of the time, the reconstructed story keeps the reader's interest in a way that a pure history would not. We already know the story from the perspective of the colonists and the Penn family. Here we learn how the events looked to the Indians and how their lives and livelihoods were irrevocably disrupted by the actions of others." —Stephen Russell, author of Overcoming Evil God's Way: The Biblical and Historical Case for Nonresistance.
The Final Conquest details the life of Glikkikan as a Christian preacher and the struggles and fears in the Christian Indian villages of Schoenbrunn, Gnadenhuetten, and Lichtenau, Ohio, during the tension and turmoil of the Revolutionary War.
